The INTERNATIONAL WATERCOLOR SOCIETY OF BOLIVIA (IWS-BOLIVIA) organizes the FIRST INTERNATIONAL WATERCOLOR BIENNIAL “KIPUS-BOLIVIA” Heart of South America, with the purpose of showing the world the artistic work of national and international watercolorists.
The Biennial will allow the realization of workshops, masterful demonstrations, interactive activities, live painting and the celebration of World Watercolor’s Day. It will be an event that will show the international community the artistic and cultural wealth of the Plurinational State of Bolivia through the language of watercolor.
COCHABAMBA IS THE HOST OF THE FIRST INTERNATIONAL WATERCOLOR BIENNIAL
Cochabamba is the third city of Bolivia, its name comes from two Quechua words: g’ucha = lake and panpa = plain, it is located in the center of the country and therefore in the heart of South America, at an average altitude of 2558 meters with a population of 1,916,000 inhabitants, Cochabamba is a city that has been built on pools of water, surrounded by fields of crops and valuable pre-Inca and Inca ruins.
Characterized by the permanent work of the different artistic and cultural manifestations, particularly by the cultivation of water techniques, the Governor of Cochabamba promulgates Law No. 732 “Declaring Artistic, Cultural and Historical Heritage the practice of watercolor in the Department.
EXHIBITION AND PLACE:
DATE: NOVEMBER 16 – 30, 2017
PLACE: CASONA SANTIVAÑEZ AND CASONA DE MAYORAZGO,
COCHABAMBA CITY, BOLIVIA.
1. The Biennial will be open to all artists of the world without restriction.
2. The theme is free
3. Each artist participates only with one work.
4. The works must be original and finished in the last 3 years and should not be derived from photos, images or works by other authors.
5. Transparent watercolor (at least 90%) on paper.
6. The accepted dimensions are: 56 x 38cm or 76 x 56 cm.
The jury of the First International Watercolor Biennial, Kipus – Bolivia will be conformed of members nominated by IWS Bolivia.
For IWS representatives from each country:
– The images of the paintings must be sent together by the representative of each country according to the following format:
– Send the images with the participation forms to the email:
– The subject of the email should be: NAME OF THE RESPECTIVE COUNTRY
– The image should be perfectly cut with a size of 3MB to 5MB and a resolution of 300 dpi with a minimum of 1500 pixels on the longest side.
– Additional digital retouching processes are not allowed.
For individual artists:
– Send an email with your respective image and participation form under the same criteria as the IWS Representatives of each country, the subject of the email should be:
NAME OF ARTIST AND COUNTRY
The photo of the painting and the inscription form must be sent together until 24:00 (GMT-4) of SEPTEMBER 23, 2017.
From 80 to 100 paintings will be selected for the exhibition, once the works have been chosen, the instructions for sending them and for payment procedures will be sent to every participating artist.
DEADLINE FOR THE RECEPTION OF ART WORKS:
All original paintings and participation fees will be received by the organizers until October 30, 2017
Artists selected by the jury must pay the following fees:
– For participants other than Bolivians: 80 USD.
– For Bolivian participants: 40 USD.
The prizes awarded will be as follows: ACQUISITION PRIZES
A. First Prize: The sum of 1,500 USD., Medal and Certificate.
B. Second Prize: The sum of 1000 USD., Medal and Certificate.
C. Third Prize: The sum of 700 USD., Medal and Certificate.
Five honorable mentions will be given.
The organizers of the Biennial will publish a high quality catalogue, each selected artist is entitled to a copy of the catalog for free but its shipping cost must be covered by the artist.
The selected works of the international artists must be sent without frame, since the organizers will supply the frames for their paintings, instead the works of the Bolivian participants must be sent framed and ready for their exhibition.
IWS recommends you the use of EMS (North American USPS – International Express Mail) postal service for the shipment of the works, you may also use the service of FEDEX, UPS, DHL, TNT or any other Courier. Customs payments shall be covered by the sender. Please indicate on the package: NO VALUE – ONLY FOR EXPOSITION
PAYMENTS FOR THE RETURN OF THE PAINTINGS:
The return of the paintings is on account of the artist.
SALE OF WORKS:
The authors of the works gives the organizers the consent for the sale of their works, in case of sale the organizers will retain 30% of the value indicated by the author.
With his/her participation, the artist accepts all the points written by the organizers, otherwise he/she will not be admitted to the Biennial.
Participants whose original work does not agree with the images given for the selection process will be disqualified and their works returned after the end of the Biennial.
The decision of the jury is final, the winning works will remain in the collection of the company sponsoring the event.
The organizers of the Biennial have the right to exhibit, photograph, record on video and publish all selected works.
The management of the works will be carried out with great care by the organizers of the event. At the time of sending the registration, the artists release IWS BOLIVIA, its representatives and the organizers from all responsibility regarding on the loss or damage of the paintings. It is suggested that each artist should take care of his own insurance, if he/she considers it appropriate.

AUGUST 1st, 2017: Launching of the Biennial.
SEPTEMBER 23, 2017: Deadline for submitting the entry form and photographs of the works in digital format.
SEPTEMBER 30, 2017: Publication of selected artists, (on the IWS Bolivia Facebook Page).
OCTOBER 30, 2017: Deadline for arriving the original paintings and for transfer the financial contributions for their participation.
NOVEMBER 17, 2017: Opening and awarding ceremony.
NOVEMBER 18-23, 2017: Development of a special program.
